What Are the Ingredients in the Fish Feed?Updated 10 days ago

Feed composition is one of the most important factors in the quality and the cleanliness of farmed seafood.

We currently work with 19 different species across multiple partner farms. Different species require different feed compositions, and each farm works with its own supply chain, which can also slightly shift seasonally. That said, consistency and quality are paramount for fish health and reliable nutrition.

Most of our farm partners use feeds that include a combination of:

- Plant proteins (such as corn, soy, pea, barley, or pistachio)

- Marine oils (fish meal and fish oil)

- Algae oil (particularly at forward-thinking farms like Hudson Valley Fisheries)

- Essential amino acids and minerals

- Astaxanthin a naturally occurring antioxidant found in kelp, krill, and crustaceans

What Is Always Prohibited

Synthetic coloring agents, GMOs, synthetic hormones, and prophylactic antibiotics are strictly forbidden under the Seatopia Standard as well as third party standards like BAP and ASC.

We're particularly committed to accelerating the shift toward higher inclusions of algae and insect protein-based feeds across our network a transition that produces even higher Omega-3 levels and reduces reliance on wild fish meal. This is Aquaculture 3.0 in action. Many of our farm partners are here already and we work closely to incentivize their transitions as quickly as possible.
