How Long Does Thawed Fish and Caviar Last in the Refrigerator?Updated 4 months ago

Once thawed, Seatopia seafood is best consumed within 1–3 days in the refrigerator for optimal flavor, texture, and food safety. Earlier is generally better — fish continues to dry out slightly even when properly refrigerated.

Tips for maximizing freshness after thawing:

- Store unwrapped from the vacuum bag, wrapped instead in a paper towel or tuna paper

- Keep covered in the coldest section of your refrigerator

- If you know you won't be cooking it within the next couple of days, keep it frozen until you're ready

- If you do not intend to cook it the next day, switch the paper towel, which can sometimes stick to wet fish

For smoked fish and lox (lightly preserved products): if still sealed in vacuum packaging after defrosting, they can last up to 3 days in the refrigerator. Once opened, consume within 1–2 days for best flavor and quality.

For salmon roe or other caviar:

- Frozen and unopened: Can be kept frozen for several months. Once defrosted, an approximate 4-week refrigerated shelf life applies as a safe guideline — assuming the product has been kept consistently frozen up to that point.

- Defrosted and unopened: Up to approximately 4 weeks refrigerated (general guideline; shelf life depends on when the roe was originally frozen).

- After opening: Consume within 5 days in the refrigerator.
